Partial and Full Dentures

Dentures are a commonly used solution for partial or fully missing teeth. They consist of a removable device that replaces the missing teeth and tissue that you require.

Dentures can be conventional or immediate, depending on your needs.

Conventional dentures are used when decayed or damaged teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has started to heal. Approximately 8-12 weeks following the removal of the damaged or decayed teeth, conventional dentures can be placed.

Immediate dentures are placed immediately following the removal of any decayed or damaged teeth. This allows you the aesthetic of having teeth while the gums and tissue heal. However, immediate dentures will require follow-up and potential adjustment, since healing bone and gums shrink with time and may cause the immediate dentures to fit differently after they have properly healed. This option is used when the client doesn’t want to be without teeth during the healing period, until conventional dentures can be fitted after the healing process.

If you still have one or more natural teeth in your upper or lower jaw, partial dentures may be an option for you. A partial denture contains replacement teeth bonded to a plastic base that mimics your natural gums. The teeth are attached to a metal framework and can be inserted to fill the gap. The device not only functions for aesthetic purposes, but also helps prevent other teeth from shifting around. A partial denture has a more natural appearance. While it is removable, the attachments for the denture are internal, and make for a more cohesive appearance with the rest of your smile.

While dentures are a relatively economic fix for missing teeth that may be necessary, dental implants offer a much higher quality, comfortable, life-long alternative. Since the implants involve using permanently fixed dental bridges, you will never have the feeling that your teeth are moving around in your mouth.
